Comma Rule 2: Comma with conjunctions
To use a commas with a conjunction word properly, you must have a independent clause before and after where you are going to place the comma with a conjunctive word. Conjunctive words are so, yet, and, or, nor, for, but. If you want, you can use a period or semi colon and replace a conjunctive word and a comma.
I need to get a new xbox, so I am going to the mall
Its cold, and I won't go outside.
Its cold. I won't go outside.
Its cold: I won't go outside.
